British photographer Emmanuel Cole celebrates the joyous occasion that is Purim, a Jewish holiday celebrating joy and resilience in the face of persecution with a series of amazing portraits taken in Stamford Hill (London, UK). This series is for Emmanuel a return to his first love: documenting the unseen communities of his native city.
He explains: "I have a connection with Stamford Hill as an area of London because my dad used to go there a lot and my Mum used to shop at the Netto supermarket there, which has since closed. I have done a lot of commercial work in the last three years and wanted to go back to my roots of documenting London and its inhabitants. Purim is such a special occasion in the Jewish calendar and I wanted to capture and pay respect to how joyful and unique it is."
